He gave us enough time to think & discuss our choices for the night before taking our orders. Whilst we were enjoying our drinks a waiter came to our table and explained the cuisine, type of starters they offer, methods of cooking etc which was very useful. The first impression was simply woBoth the drinks were lovely. Another lovely lady escorted us to our reserved table. For all the courses: Taste, texture and temperature were perfectttt!!!! Service: Exemplary! We were welcomed by a cheerful lady at the welcome desk who checked in our overcoats. How this place has a Michelin star is beyond me.ĭecor: Treat for the eye! Food: Modern take on traditional Indian delicacies. The food was mediocre and vastly overpriced. Know what comments are needed and what isn't. Only comment I have is that it's a pet peeve of mine to have a waiter come and say things such as "oooh didn't like that one then ha ha!" And "that went down quickly!!". Staff: Very friendly and polite, attentive with refilling drinks. Jumbo Madagascan prawn: Spectacular to look at but distinctly average to taste Miniature desserts: The creme brûlée tasted like cough sweets. Curry dishes at gymkhana knock this out of the park. Chicken biryani: Another case of "it was nice" but that's it. Tikka duck: Tough, chewy and over cooked, which was a real shame as the coating was really quite nice Chicken chops: Again, nice enough but nothing special. The green sauce which came with it tasted like call pollution smells. Tikka Paneer: Soft textured and lightly spiced. Ludicrously overpriced - £24 for two scallops?! Even if they'd been the best I've eaten that almost classes as robbery. Goats cheese and mandarin salad: Worryingly, this was the best dish of the night and it was blindingly simple and showed little skill - quite balsamic heavy but overall enjoyable Scallops: Cooked okay, but on the bland side - sauce not quite balanced. As this is sort of an "Indian tapas" kind of place, you order several small plates and they arrive once they are cooked as opposed to all together as separate courses. The decor is nice and relaxed, and the restaurant with the open kitchen has a good vibe. I'd heard good things about Amaya, so I was excited to try. Please book a night out here and I'm sure like me you'll be coming back time and time again! I am confident when I say that Amaya is on the top of my list to eat out and hasn't been beaten for the last few years. The restaurant itself is stylish in its appearance, the kitchen is on full display to the diners sitting close and is spotless and as mentioned the atmosphere as a whole is spot on. Receiving your food this way means that everyone on your table can sample a little of each dish and it just assists towards the laid back and relaxed atmosphere Amaya have created perfectly. It's similar to the way Wagamama serves you but on a much grander scale. I also love that the food comes out to you in stages and it's not your usual starter, mains and deserts. If you go I can strongly recommend the following dishes as they are just delicious: Seabass Spinach Pepper chicken Broccoli with yogurt Jumbo Madagascan prawn Grilled asparagus But try everything as each time we've been we've tried something new and have never been disappointed. Now the food - YUM YUM YUM! I have never had anything but the best Indian food here and some of the dishes make my mouth water just thinking of them. I have to say on our most recent visit the manager was exceptional as he double checked the dishes we ordered for allergies and even made sure a few of our dishes ordered twice came out at different times. My partner has a gluten free diet and they are excellent in dealing with this whilst not being limited to a few dishes. For starters the staff are extremely friendly and bend over backwards to assist you in anyway they can. From the moment you walk through the door to the moment you leave you feel like you've had a very special evening out. I've been to Amaya several times now and each time truly has been amazing.
